In classrooms, concert halls and unexpected spaces across the UK, Aurora Orchestra is quietly transforming how children and communities experience orchestral music. Through a vibrant artistic and creative music programme, Aurora is making sure that the magic of live performance isn’t reserved for the few. It is becoming a joyful part of everyday life for thousands of young people.
Each year, more than 2,000 children attend an Aurora performance or workshop with their school. From storytelling concerts in local halls for children aged four to seven, to specially adapted performances for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, Aurora’s approach is imaginative, inclusive and deeply impactful. Their work with music hubs ensures that schools who stand to benefit the most are front and centre.
But the magic doesn’t stop at the concert hall doors. Aurora Classroom, the orchestra’s unique learning resource programme, brings the orchestra directly into primary and secondary schools. With feature films, hundreds of beautifully produced recordings and creative activities aligned with the curriculum, Aurora helps teachers embed music into the heart of school life. Expert-led training sessions support educators to grow their confidence and practice, ensuring the music continues long after the final note. Since April 2025 the Aurora Classroom resources have been completely free for schools to access, and are now being used by thousands of children in more than two thirds of the UK’s local authority areas.
Aurora’s commitment to reaching new audiences extends to its flagship ‘Orchestral Theatre’ series. This is an electrifying blend of world-class music-making, theatrical storytelling and cross-artform collaboration. Whether through immersive performances in unexpected venues (such as large-scale nightclubs) or ticket schemes for young people and school groups, Aurora is opening doors to orchestral music in ways that feel fresh, exciting and welcoming.
